SUSTAINABILITY
The Transmar Group of companies and its commitment to sustainability is rooted in the belief that
what is good for the farmer and his farmland is good for cocoa. We have connected this belief to action on the ground through
a mutiplicity of activities in the producing contries from which our cocoa is sourced.
World Cocoa Foundation
By working through the international educational and development organizations and foundations Transmar seeks to leverage its ability to reach farmers and improve their lives. Transmar does this through its membership in the World Cocoa Foundation, which provides services to thousands of poor farmers around the world.
Gates Foundation
Transmar is a Steering Group Member of the Gates Foundation supported "Cocoa Livelihoods Program" which is operated by the WCF. This project is engaged in providing farming and business education to nearly 200,000 cocoa farmers in Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Liberia and Nigeria.
UTZ Good Inside Program
The UTZ Good Inside Program is another project for which Transmar serves on the Steering Committee. UTZ Certified works with farmers and other stakeholders in the cocoa industry to insure that cocoa is grown in a socially, environmentally and sustainable manner.
Transmar Ecuador
In Ecuador where Transmar has deep connections due to its long history in the region, the company has spearheaded multiple initiatives to improve the lives of farmers as well as its own employees. Transmar has installed some of the best employee benefits and working conditions of any cocoa exporter in the country. Through its "Project Dream", Transmar farmers receive education in Good Agricultural Practices and incentives to deliver quality cocoa.
ACDI-VOCA
Transmar also supports the Success Alliance Farmer Field School in Ecuador operated by ACDI-VOCA, an international NGO committed to improving farmer incomes through education. Through the "Transmar Cocoa Project" smallholder farmers receive advanced training in post-harvest and marketing techniques, which translates into more income from their products.
